Paper Mache is a technique of making decorative items with
paper pulp was adopted from Persia in 15th century by King
Zain-ul-Abidin. And since then Paper Mache has become one of the best-known handicrafts
of Kashmir. The skilled artisans involved with this painstaking process are
called Sakhta makers.
The designs and patterns include intricate flowers, birds,
leaves and more is strongly inspired from Persia, the place of origin of this
craft.
