Paper
Mache is a traditional handicraft of Kashmir and one of the most beautiful. It
is still made by hand by the local craftsman or Karigars.
The
procedure of making paper mache product starts with the soaking paper in water
till it becomes a fine pulp and then the adhesive is added. The pulp is given
different shapes and left to dry. These molds are then painted with the base
color i.e. black and left to dry. Latter intricate motifs are designed in
different colors. It is worth to visit the household which is involved in this occupation
and observe the process of making these items very meticulously.
